PilotStar NX ship autopilot gets a new view

- Intuitive “Simplified View” improves safety -

Raytheon Anschütz, a business of Raytheon Technologies, has released the PilotStar NX autopilot for ships. The system’s new “Simplified View” offers navigators easier operation and greater situational awareness.

Navigators can access the “Simplified View Mode” by pressing a soft button on the autopilot’s large graphical touch screen display. The well-arranged display provides easy-to-read heading data while they set course and adjust settings with a single keystroke. Key features of the PilotStar NX system include: • The well-known heading control mode, and a new “NAV” mode that enables sailing a route planned on a GPS receiver, chart plotter or equivalent.

  • A “Trim” mode which optimizes steering performance and rudder activity for vessels with asymmetrical loads (e.g., tugs or fishing vessels).
  • A “Fix turn” function that allows pre-defined heading changes with a single push of a button.
  • Soft buttons for follow-up and non-follow-up manual control of the steering gear, and to extend to a compact steering gear control system.
